November Quarterly Impact Report: The Temple Healthy Chest Initiative

The American Cancer Society is forecasting more than two million new cases of cancer to be diagnosed in the year 2024. And while the incidence rate is on the rise, cancer-related deaths continue to decline. Early detection is key to producing better outcomes for patients.

The Temple Healthy Chest Initiative, a health-system wide program aimed to increase the amount of individuals receiving lung screenings in the region, presents its quarterly impact report to highlight performance metrics, key program updates, and real patient stories for our community of participating and referring physicians. From innovative research endeavors to community outreach initiatives, we're sharing the outcomes of the collective commitment of our faculty to improving screening rates and lung health outcomes in our community.

Our process funnels patients with findings to the appropriate specialist, generating volume for a wide range of specialties within the health system.

John Kruk Gets His Screenings at the Temple Lung Center

John Kruk, former First Baseman for the Phillies and three-time MLB All-Star, understands the importance of staying in control of his health. So when he realized that, as a former smoker, he was eligible to receive lung screenings, he booked an appointment with the Temple Lung Center, where he received a CT scan, spirometry testing, and a 6 minute walk test. Our bundled approach to scheduling these important tests creates a better patient experience, and our dedicated team of Nurse Navigators means patients find out results within days, so they can receive any necessary follow ups quickly. See more of John’s experience in the video below.
